The Daughters of Charity Foundation was established on May 15, 1984 in response to a request from the Daughters of Charity, Province of the West (now known as the Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton) to assist in obtaining financial support. Sister Teresa Piro D.C., along with Verle Pozzo, a founding board member, recognized the need for organized financial support for the Daughters of Charity to continue their ministries in hospitals, social services, schools and parishes. Today, the Daughters of Charity Foundation awards subsidies annually to the Daughters’ ministries. Recent funding includes ten schools in California and Arizona, the largest private Meals on Wheels program in the United States, affordable housing for low-income families and seniors, emergency food assistance for communities, a specialized substance abuse program for pregnant women, case management for the unhoused, and programs that serve the elderly, the sick, families and their children.

The Daughters of Charity Foundation was established in 1984 in response to a request from the Daughters of Charity Province of the West (now known as the Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton) to assist in obtaining financial support.
Sister Teresa Piro D.C., recognized that all the ministries in the Province would find themselves with limited resources. With the assistance of Sister Andrea Hickey, D.C. and Verle Pozzo Casey, the Daughters of Charity Foundation was created to obtain the much-needed financial support for the Daughters to continue their ministries in hospitals, social services, schools and parishes.
Today, the Daughters of Charity Foundation awards subsidies annually to the Daughters of Charity ministries. Recent funding includes ten schools in California and Arizona, the largest private Meals on Wheels program in the United States, affordable housing for low-income families and seniors, emergency food assistance for the community in the Hopi and Navajo tribal lands, a specialized substance abuse program for pregnant women, case management for the homeless, and other programs serving the elderly, the sick and low-income families and their children.
The Daughters of Charity work to ensure the well-being of our senior community by sponsoring Hotel Dieu, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, and Villa Siena. Through these ministries, elders in these communities have access to affordable housing, nutritious meals, and enhanced independence with supportive services, all while honoring the dignity of each person.
The Daughters of Charity have a strong advocacy focus through GRACE (Gather, Respect, Advocate, Engage), GRACE End Child Poverty Institute, and Interprovincial Office of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation. Through these programs, the Daughters of Charity have a broader impact by advocating and working to address the root causes of social injustice.
The Daughters of Charity are dedicated to providing social services through a variety of ministries, including The Epiphany Center, Give Me A Chance, Maryvale, Rosalie Rendu Center, St. Louise Resource Services, and St. Vincent’s, Santa Barbara. Through these ministries, the Daughters of Charity enrich lives by offering practical support and resources to individuals and families through services such as child development, education, counseling, transitional housing, job training, access to health care and case management, and more. Through these efforts, the Daughters of Charity foster environments of growth, healing, and opportunity.
The Daughters of Charity value collaboration and minister with other branches of the Vincentian Family: Vincentian Marian Youth, Ladies of Charity, the Congregation of the Mission, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and Depaul USA. They also collaborate with the neighboring Province of St. Louise in formation activities and in ministry to migrant populations. Through their dedication and service, the Daughters of Charity strive to live out the Vincentian charism by their compassionate service and respect for the dignity of all individuals.
